Shopping Your Colours: My Edit at Jigsaw

THE COLOURFUL EDIT - SIP AND SHOP SESSION - SATURDAY 3RD OCTOBER - JIGSAW EDINBURGH

I’ve loved spending time at Jigsaw Edinburgh, chatting about colour and helping people find pieces that feel right for them. Taking your palette into a shop and seeing how it works across a collection is such a useful part of the process, and one I really enjoy sharing.

With that in mind, I’ve put together a guide to shopping your season at Jigsaw, curated by me. It’s my take on the collection through my colour lens, with ideas for Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter palettes.

From soft pinks and greys to rich chocolate, olive and bright blue, there’s plenty to explore. I hope the edits help you spot possibilities you might otherwise have walked past, or give you a fresh idea for putting an outfit together.

Make it yours

Something I often come back to with clients is the importance of understanding your own colours.

We’ve all admired an outfit on a friend, bought something we’ve seen online, or been drawn to a beautifully styled shop window. That’s part of the pleasure of fashion. But loving a look on someone else doesn’t always mean you’ll love wearing it yourself.

Before buying, it’s worth asking: am I drawn to this piece, or to the way she looks in it?

Your palette gives you a starting point, and your personality takes it from there. Two people can share a colour season and have completely different wardrobes. You might love a soft, tonal combination while someone else enjoys a bolder mix. There’s room for both.

I want my clients to feel comfortable making those choices for themselves. After more than 15 years of styling and working with over 1,000 clients, I know that the most useful advice is advice you can take away and use again; in another shop, with another collection, or at home in front of your wardrobe.

From the guide to the fitting room

These edits bring together my colour and styling knowledge with pieces from Jigsaw’s collection. They’re there to give you ideas, and trying things in person is where we can get a little more specific.

We can look at the shade against your colouring, see how the fabric falls and talk about how you’d actually wear it. Colours can also look different on a screen, so it’s still a lovely treat to touch, feel and admire the fabrics.

I’ll always be interested in what’s already in your wardrobe, too. A new knit might work beautifully with trousers you’ve had for years. A colour combination in the guide might inspire you to wear two familiar pieces together for the first time.

That’s a lovely part of styling: finding more enjoyment in what you have, alongside choosing carefully when you do buy.

The loveliest outcome for me is seeing you choose something because you understand why it works for you… and because you can’t wait to wear it and show it off.
